The traditional British Fruit Cup was a late-18th century gin-based cocktail, built with herbs and fruit into specific and private recipes. By the early 19th century it became common to pair Fruit Cups with oysters, as was the case in James Pimm’s London oyster bar. In 1823, Pimm started producing his particular reduced liqueur and calling it the Pimm’s Cup, which then was served in his expanding chain of oyster bars.

As Pimm’s brand changed hands and added recipes over time, new liqueurs were numbered—going up to Pimm’s No. 6 after WW2—as the original No. 1 continued to spread in popularity. Today, the Pimm’s Cup is the official drink of Wimbledon, who claims to move 40,000 pints over the course of the annual two-week tournament. Our version of the Pimm’s Cup includes sliced cucumbers, strawberries, oranges, lemons, and fresh mint, which we top up with our spicy ginger ale on tap. A refreshing classic, the Pimm’s Cup is the quintessential summertime drink and is available in Vol #3 as a single cocktail and by the pitcher.
